How to Meditate

In Buddhism, meditation is used as the means to gain knowledge that liberates you from suffering.  Theravada Buddhism uses two types of meditation that were also used by the Buddha in his time.  Both are equally beneficial, and should be practiced within your life.

Vipassana:  Or insight meditation.  The practice of insight meditation aims at gaining a direct understanding of the real nature of phenomena.
